I came into this world knowing I did not belong to it, but to a place beyond—a luminous source of lasting peace and clarity that I now call the Awakened Home. While others embraced the rhythms of human life, I saw through them: impermanence, change, and suffering woven into every aspect of human experience. Joy and sorrow, love and hate, success and failure, birth and death – none of it felt like Home. Deep inside, I knew my true Home was beyond this transient world, and my lifelong quest was to find the way back to Awakened Home, the source from which all beings originated.

Even as a child, I was consumed with questions others weren’t asking. What is real love? Why is there suffering? What is the purpose of all this? The need to find the answers was not intellectual. It was spiritual, personal, and urgent. Without answers, living felt like dying.

My deep inner quest led me to become a Buddhist nun at age 18. I devoted myself to spiritual practice, studying sacred texts, practicing countless methods and techniques, and I even earned a Master’s in Comparative Religion and Holistic Health. Yet, I still could not find the answers to my restless questions.

In 2001, hitting the rock bottom of my search while attending a layperson meditation retreat in Thailand, I attained Enlightenment. I became a Buddha, fully Awakening and completely shattering the root of all suffering. At that moment, all the identities and concepts of the human system dissolved. What remained was vast, radiant, serene, and peaceful. I returned to Awakened Home, and at that moment, I saw that all beings also have the potential to return to Awakened Home. The Great Vow appeared in Me to awaken that potential (the Buddha potential) in all beings and to guide them to return Home and liberate the source of suffering. At that moment, infinite wisdom and boundless compassion also appeared along with the pure essence and the skillful means to awaken beings. I continue to manifest these Five Awakened Natures and live Awakened 24/7.

In 2003, I established Universal Door Meditation Center in Sugar Land as a place for people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs to come, have their Buddha potential awakened, and begin their awakening journey under my guidance. I also co-founded Awakened Centers in Dallas, Vietnam, and Thailand to awaken people around the globe.

From my wisdom, my guidance is alive, practical, and flexible, meeting people exactly where they are, helping them see clearly, heal deeply, and reconnect with their Buddha Nature.

Future Milestones:

Continued Awakening: The Great Vow relentlessly continues to awaken all people so that more can become Buddhas. As people continue to have awakening moments, they begin to spread the light to the whole world.

Sharing the Message: The manifestations of this process will result in the production and dissemination of more wisdom-opening content, including books, videos, social media, and livestreams in a variety of languages, as well as the development of additional Awakened Centers across the globe.

Autobiography: After 25 years of my Enlightenment and awakening humanity, at the request of my students, I have finally written my autobiography. I continue to awaken my students by giving them the chance to review the content, ask questions, update, and stand up to publish and share it with the world through podcasts, interviews, and book tours, so that seekers who live afar can get a feel for what it means to become a Buddha, with the words coming straight from a living Awakened One. Once this book is published, it will be a tool to awaken readers across the world.

The International Awakened Retreat Center: After 25 years, the site plan is finally ready to begin development on the serene 9-acre land of the Universal Door Meditation Center. Plans are underway to develop a larger meditation hall, a retreat residence (to welcome and house seekers from all over the world to have their Buddha potential awakened), a space for awakening youth & teens, and a multi-purpose hall with dining facilities.

Everyone is invited to join the journey of awakening and contribute through time, effort, and/or donations. When one person plants the Awakened seed, it leads to the sprouting of several more.

We Asked "The Awakened One": How Do You Actually Wake Up Spiritually?

Is spiritual awakening real, or just a nice metaphor? Awakened Zen Master Thich Dieu Thien, known as the Awakened One, says it is literal, and she can name the day it happened to her: April 8, 2001. Will and Karen ask her the question every seeker wrestles with: how do you actually wake up? She explains the "False Mind," the ever-changing ego built from ignorance, greed and hatred, and why even our skepticism comes from it. She shares why a glimpse of enlightenment fades, what step one really i...
