Key Takeaways
- Traditional meditation often focuses strictly on emptying the mind, but Suzanne Giesemann suggests moving past mere emptiness into allowing source joy and experiences to fill that space.
- The BLESS ME method provides a structured seven-step approach to connecting with higher consciousness, moving from breathing and lifting vibration to merging and experiencing.
- Unconscious limiting beliefs, such as resigning yourself to the idea that "nothing is going to happen" during meditation, can actively block profound spiritual experiences.
- Instead of approaching meditation with rigid expectations for bells and whistles, seekers should embrace childlike curiosity and a "surprise me" attitude.
- Spiritual awakening is a journey that often requires letting go of the desperate desire for supernatural tricks and instead finding peace in the present moment.
Some moments in an interview are too good to leave buried at minute 37.
Conversations is our series of short, single-topic episodes taken from our interviews with some of the most fascinating minds in consciousness, spirituality, and the science of the unseen. There’s no warm-up and no detours. You get one guest, one big idea, and a few minutes that might change how you see your life.
Think of each one as a doorway. Play it on your commute, between meetings, or whenever you need a reminder that reality is stranger, and far more hopeful, than we were taught. If something sparks, follow it into the full interview, where the rabbit hole goes deeper.
As always, we come at this as skeptics who stayed curious. We stay open-minded and grounded, and we never ask you to take anyone’s word for it, including ours.
In this Conversation: Susanne giesseman on a meditation reframe.

0:03 Hi, I'm Will, and this is Conversations from the Skeptic Metaphysicians. Every so often in the middle of a long interview, a guest says something that stops us in our tracks. Something that deserves its own spotlight. These are those moments. One guest, one big idea, just a few minutes that might change the way you see your life. So find a comfortable spot, stay skeptical, Stay curious and enjoy today's conversation.
0:44 My goal has always been to empty the vessel. Meditation is not about not thinking about anything, but rather just thinking about one thing constantly. And you've probably done that and you have experienced that. a few blissful moments of just emptiness. Yes. But that emptiness, that pure awareness, now has so much potential. Let it arise as some awesome experience. So no wonder you're not having experiences. You want to be empty. I say, fill it up. Bring it on. That makes a lot of sense. I like that. I mean, it does, but it goes contrary to everything that I've learned in terms of how to do meditations. So then I am now empty and now I'm asking universe to fill me up. Is there a specific way to do that or do I just see what happens?
1:34 I have a method I call the seven steps to connecting with higher consciousness and the seven steps form the acronym bless me. And it's breathing deeply, lifting your vibration, expanding your energy field, surrendering the identification that you are this person with a name. And then the shift is basically not shifting higher, not shifting outside your body. That's the second S and bless me. But shifting to, I call source joy, shift to joy. And that is the emptiness. Now, joy can show up in its limitless manifestations. So the next stage is M, merge. Merge with one of those manifestations in awareness as awareness. So you sit here and you can actually say, okay, Whoever wants to come to me now because it's going to provide me some learning, come now. And now you go back to emptiness. And the final letter E is experience. And now you sit empty, but you've invited someone in. So for this session, you're going to listen, look, and notice what stands out from the emptiness. It's all awareness. Yep.
2:47 I've been definitely doing it wrong. No, it's not wrong. You're probably far more peaceful and intuitive than most of the people you know. So you haven't done anything wrong. You're just now going to shift your focus and have what I call more adventures in consciousness. Oh, I like that. I love that. And I think also not necessarily having the expectations because, you know, not you, but a lot of people expect to feel a certain way. And I'm kind of, my thing is just like, surprise me. Let me know you're there, but surprise me. Yeah. I just said, I do, I put out on, I do a podcast every Sunday and then I have a short video every Wednesday. And last week was some of the things that get in the way. And one of them is assumptions. That's all on my YouTube channel, but assumptions such as you're going to have bells and whistles now every time. It's not going to happen, Will. So be happy.
3:37 It's okay when nothing happens, but buckle your seatbelt because there will be sometimes, but we don't always know how that will show up. Well, it's funny because I think there's a very specific reason why I am experiencing what I'm experiencing. Basically, when we first started this, I was all about the bells and whistles. I want to ask, project. I want to talk to the dead. I want to, all that, right? I want all the toys. So I had to actually come to center to the point where I can be let go of all that and just be, and then allow it to open up to let whatever comes through, comes through. So that makes perfect sense. I just, yeah. And that is the normal path. So you're not doing anything wrong. You're actually at that beautiful stage now. And I know that joy and its various manifestations holds back until just the right time. So as you learn to trust, you say, well, if nothing's happening, then we're just in this fallow period of germination. And, I can't wait to see what happens, but I'll be patient.
4:40 I trust. Right. I'm at the point where it's not so much trust, but rather, okay, whatever. I'm surrendered to nothing's going to happen. That's fine. I'm enjoying the bliss and I see a tremendous, wonderful change in me and I'm enjoying who I am these days because of this. Now, I'll be more intentional in where. Please, because you just gave away a big key right there. I'm surrendered to nothing's going to happen. See that underlying BS? That's this belief system. Belief system. What do you think?
5:23 And so if that's your underlying belief, well, it's just emptiness. I'm surrendered. Nothing's going to happen. You're creating that. You're co-creating that. So now do what Karen said and just be curious and say, maybe it will, maybe it won't, but I can't wait for it to just... Watch it unfold. That was a conversation from the Skeptic Metaphysicians. If that sparked something, the full interview goes much deeper. You'll find the link in the show notes. And if there's someone in your life that you think might just need to hear this today, why not send it their way? Thanks for listening. We'll see you on the next Conversations.
6:06 Thank you.
