Every once in a while. You think that you are really on the right path. You are dead on. You're going, you're progressing perfectly. You have left behind all the judgmental and egotistical kind of personality traits that you have, and that is when our universe says, bam. Time for a gut check, time for not only a gut check and an all round check from personal experience, it's important to remember that we are all a work in progress.

And just when you think you've got it all figured out, that's the time to realize you don't have anything figured out because the universe is so much more complex than we would possibly imagine.

1
00:00:05.599 --> 00:00:09.560
Karen. Yes, every once in
a while you think that you are really

2
00:00:09.720 --> 00:00:12.800
on the right path. You are
dead on, you're going, you're progressing

3
00:00:12.839 --> 00:00:19.839
perfectly. You have left behind all
the judgmental and egotistical kind of personality traits

4
00:00:19.839 --> 00:00:25.440
that you have. And that is
when a universe says, I am time

5
00:00:25.519 --> 00:00:28.440
for a gut check. Time for
not only a gut check, in an

6
00:00:28.519 --> 00:00:35.159
all round check. From personal experience, it's important to remember that we are

7
00:00:35.240 --> 00:00:38.240
all a work in progress, and
just when you think you've got it all

8
00:00:38.240 --> 00:00:41.880
figured out, that's the time to
realize you don't have anything figured out,

9
00:00:41.920 --> 00:00:46.359
because the universe is so much more
complex than we would possibly imagine. Well,

10
00:00:46.399 --> 00:00:48.600
I think that's when the ego kicks
in, you know, when you're

11
00:00:48.600 --> 00:00:51.359
like, oh, I've got it
figured out. I've made that called check

12
00:00:52.320 --> 00:00:54.920
because as humans, that's what we
want. We want to be able to

13
00:00:54.960 --> 00:00:59.320
reach that level or any level,
the next level. Yeah. Absolutely,

14
00:00:59.719 --> 00:01:03.799
I think there's like a it's like
a natural inclination to as you're getting good

15
00:01:03.840 --> 00:01:10.879
at something, you start thinking that
you're really good at something and well,

16
00:01:11.359 --> 00:01:14.439
maybe I should share a story that
just happened to me recently. A lot

17
00:01:14.439 --> 00:01:18.920
of people will remember us talking about
the fact that we are going through a

18
00:01:19.120 --> 00:01:23.480
tumultuous time in our professional lives.
The company that I worked for was going

19
00:01:23.519 --> 00:01:27.799
through a reorganization and my job was
eliminated, but I was invited to apply

20
00:01:27.959 --> 00:01:34.719
for these other positions that were there
within the organization, one of which was

21
00:01:34.200 --> 00:01:40.400
tailor made for me, or so
I thought. So I interviewed for two

22
00:01:40.439 --> 00:01:42.599
different positions, the one that was
tailor made for me and the one that

23
00:01:42.680 --> 00:01:49.959
I already had but with bigger responsibilities, and thought. I aced both interviews

24
00:01:49.000 --> 00:01:53.599
like I just crushed it. I
was so sure, I'm so convinced that

25
00:01:53.599 --> 00:01:57.359
I've got this job that I know
I'm perfect for and all that kind of

26
00:01:57.400 --> 00:02:01.959
stuff, only to learn more Nope, I got the other one. I

27
00:02:01.959 --> 00:02:07.159
got the one that I'm already doing
but with bigger responsibilities. But what happened

28
00:02:07.159 --> 00:02:10.439
when I was told I did not
get the other job that was Taylor made

29
00:02:10.479 --> 00:02:16.240
for me was such a punch in
the gut that I immediately fell back into

30
00:02:16.280 --> 00:02:23.560
the ego centered thought process, and
I was really upset. I remember that,

31
00:02:23.719 --> 00:02:27.360
yeah, like like really upset to
the point of you and I talked

32
00:02:27.360 --> 00:02:30.120
about resigning like I'm done, I'm
out of here. They don't appreciate me.

33
00:02:30.479 --> 00:02:38.039
And then and then I had a
special somebody remind me that I should

34
00:02:38.080 --> 00:02:43.639
probably reread The Surrender Experiment. Those
who don't know the book The Surrender Experiment,

35
00:02:43.800 --> 00:02:49.439
it is a fantastic book about the
importance of just trusting the universe and

36
00:02:49.560 --> 00:02:52.919
knowing that the universe is going to
put you in the best place possible.

37
00:02:53.280 --> 00:02:57.479
And for some reason, the universe
thought that that job was not the best

38
00:02:57.520 --> 00:03:00.639
place for me. And I think
going back, you could look at all

39
00:03:00.680 --> 00:03:06.039
of those reasons and see them glaring
at you and blinding light. But still

40
00:03:06.120 --> 00:03:08.479
maybe maybe that light blinded you because
you didn't see them. Well, what

41
00:03:08.560 --> 00:03:15.080
blinded me was my ego, because
suddenly I'm being rejected or denied a job

42
00:03:15.120 --> 00:03:17.960
that I thought I was perfect for, which would have been a promotion,

43
00:03:19.479 --> 00:03:23.840
and all I felt was betrayal.
Right, and that's all that I saw.

44
00:03:23.120 --> 00:03:29.280
But you're right going back with a
different perspective, mindset and looking at

45
00:03:29.560 --> 00:03:35.039
the potential, looking at the messages
that the universe has been sending me,

46
00:03:35.400 --> 00:03:40.400
it is glaringly obvious that if I
had accepted that other role, the direction

47
00:03:40.479 --> 00:03:44.639
that we want to head in,
we would not have been able to do

48
00:03:44.840 --> 00:03:49.599
absolutely not. And I think the
message is so interesting because you know,

49
00:03:49.680 --> 00:03:52.439
you work and you try really hard, and for us, we have been

50
00:03:52.479 --> 00:03:55.879
on this spiritual journey or quest and
you know you kind of feel like,

51
00:03:55.879 --> 00:04:01.400
Okay, I'm at this level,
but bam not really. Yeah, I

52
00:04:01.439 --> 00:04:09.520
think there's so many lessons there,
one of which obviously is surrender. Everything

53
00:04:09.639 --> 00:04:13.120
is going to work out the way
it's supposed to. The universe has better

54
00:04:13.159 --> 00:04:15.680
plans for you, and if you
trust the universe, they will take you

55
00:04:15.719 --> 00:04:19.480
to where you are supposed to be. Right. But then also, don't

56
00:04:19.759 --> 00:04:25.519
think that you are disconnected from ego
as much as you think you are,

57
00:04:25.800 --> 00:04:30.199
because the act of becoming much more
spiritual when you hear it all the time

58
00:04:30.360 --> 00:04:35.199
spiritual teachers who then suddenly lose themselves
because they allow their own thoughts of themselves

59
00:04:35.279 --> 00:04:41.720
to take over, and suddenly the
ego sneakily comes in and takes over,

60
00:04:42.319 --> 00:04:46.040
and then all of a sudden you're
found to be more human than you thought

61
00:04:46.040 --> 00:04:49.879
you were. Well, it's really
a lesson in humility, absolutely, and

62
00:04:49.959 --> 00:04:54.839
that is part of the surrender.
Surrender, being humble, not thinking too

63
00:04:54.920 --> 00:04:58.560
much of yourself, just quieting all
of those thoughts. So that you can

64
00:04:58.600 --> 00:05:01.000
really hear the lessons. Yeah,
And when I think about it now with

65
00:05:01.079 --> 00:05:06.560
a fresh perspective of a better mindset, we're here to serve others. Our

66
00:05:06.839 --> 00:05:13.680
role in this life is to serve
others. And if you can't be humble

67
00:05:14.120 --> 00:05:18.439
in the service of others, then
really who you're serving is yourself. And

68
00:05:18.560 --> 00:05:24.040
that's probably the biggest lesson that I've
had to face doing all this, going

69
00:05:24.079 --> 00:05:28.519
through this change at work, that
I thought I was serving others, but

70
00:05:28.560 --> 00:05:30.639
at the time, really it feels
very self serving.
